Section 2. Call to Worship
Let’s turn our hearts and minds toward the One who brings us together, the source of all love and grace. As we prepare to worship, let’s reflect on the powerful words of 2 Timothy 1:7: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Section 3. Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, we come before you today with hearts full of gratitude. Thank you for this opportunity to gather, to learn, and to grow in your love. Open our hearts and minds to your Word, and help us to apply its teachings to our lives. Guide us as we worship, and fill us with your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Section 4. Praise and Worship
Now, let’s lift our voices together in song! Our worship team has prepared a beautiful selection of music to help us express our love and adoration for God. Whether it’s a familiar hymn or a contemporary praise song, let’s sing with all our hearts, focusing on the One who deserves all our praise.
Section 5. Scripture Reading
Today, we’ll be diving into a powerful passage from 2 Timothy, chapter 1, verses 1 through 14. In this letter, Paul encourages Timothy to remain strong in his faith and to guard the gospel entrusted to him.
The Events in the NIV Bible Verse:
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, writes to Timothy, his dear son in the faith. He reminds Timothy of his genuine faith, which he inherited from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice. Paul encourages Timothy to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in him through the laying on of hands. He urges Timothy not to be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord.
2 Timothy 1:1-14 (NIV):
1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, in keeping with the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,
2 To Timothy, my dear son: Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 I thank God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.
4 Recalling your tears, I long to see you, so that I may be filled with joy.
5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, is now in you also.
6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
7 For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.
9 He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,
10 but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.
11 And of this gospel I was appointed a herald and an apostle and a teacher.
12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet this is no cause for shame, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until that day.
13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
14 Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Let us bow our heads and lift our hearts in prayer.
Intercessory Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the reminder in 2 Timothy to fan into flame the gift you have given us. We ask for your strength and courage to not be ashamed of the gospel, but to share it boldly with others. Help us to rely on your power and grace as we face challenges and trials. We pray for those who are suffering, for those who are struggling with their faith, and for those who have not yet come to know you. May your love and mercy surround them, and may they find hope and healing in you.
Congregational Prayer Response:
Lord, help us to guard the good deposit of faith that has been entrusted to us, with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Section 7. Offering
Now is the time in our service where we have the opportunity to give back to God a portion of what He has so graciously given to us. Tithes and offerings are not just about supporting the church; they are an act of worship, a tangible expression of our gratitude and trust in God’s provision.
Prayer of Thanks:
Gracious God, we thank you for the countless blessings you have poured out upon us. We offer these tithes and offerings as a symbol of our devotion and commitment to you. May they be used to further your kingdom, to reach those in need, and to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. We give with joyful hearts, knowing that you are the source of all that we have. Amen.
