Section 2. Call to Worship
Let’s prepare our hearts to hear from God. Today, we’re focusing on Hebrews 11:8-16, a powerful passage about faith and promise. As I read, let these words wash over you and stir your spirit.
Leader: By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
Congregation: Lord, give us the faith to follow You, even when the path is unclear.
Leader: By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country.
Congregation: Help us to trust in Your promises, even when we feel out of place.
Leader: For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
All: May we always seek Your heavenly kingdom above all earthly comforts.
Section 3. Opening Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with open hearts and minds. Thank You for Your faithfulness throughout generations. Like Abraham, help us to step out in faith, trusting in Your perfect plan. Open our eyes to see beyond our current circumstances and focus on the eternal hope we have in You. Guide us in this time of worship, that we may draw closer to You and be transformed by Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Section 4. Praise and Worship
Now, let’s lift our voices together in praise! Music has a wonderful way of connecting our hearts to God’s truth. Whether you’re a seasoned singer or just learning the tunes, don’t hold back – God delights in the joyful noise of His children.
Our worship team will lead us in a mix of contemporary songs and beloved hymns. Let’s allow the lyrics to remind us of God’s faithfulness and the hope we have in Him. As we sing, think about Abraham’s journey of faith and how God has been faithful in your own life.
Section 5. Scripture Reading
Today, we’re diving into Hebrews 11:8-16. This passage is often called the “Hall of Faith,” and it’s not hard to see why. It recounts the incredible journey of Abraham and his family, showcasing a faith that looked beyond the immediate and toward God’s eternal promises.
Let’s read the passage together:
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. 12 And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.
13 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth. 14 People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. 15 If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. 16 Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
This passage reminds us of the power of faith and the promise of a heavenly home that awaits us. Abraham and his family’s journey wasn’t just about a physical destination, but a spiritual one that points us to our ultimate home with God.
Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Let’s pray together:
Loving Father, we thank You for the example of Abraham and Sarah. Their faith inspires us to trust You more deeply. Like them, help us to step out in faith, even when we can’t see the full picture.
Lord, we pray for those in our congregation who are facing their own journeys into the unknown – those changing jobs, moving to new places, or facing health challenges. Give them the courage to trust in Your promises.
We also lift up our community, our nation, and our world. May we be people who live as “foreigners and strangers on earth,” always pointing others to the hope we have in You.
Congregational Response: “Lord, increase our faith, that like Abraham and Sarah, we may look forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.”
Section 7. Offering
Friends, as we prepare to give our tithes and offerings, let’s remember that giving is an act of worship and faith. Just as Abraham was willing to follow God’s call, leaving behind the familiar, our giving is a tangible way we demonstrate our trust in God’s provision.
Let’s pray: Heavenly Father, all we have comes from You. As we give back a portion of what You’ve blessed us with, we do so with grateful hearts. Use these gifts to further Your kingdom and to bless others. May our giving be an act of worship that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Section 8. Special Music
As we continue in worship, we have a special musical offering that beautifully captures the theme of our message today. Let’s open our hearts as we listen to “Faith of Our Fathers,” performed by our church choir.

Bible Study: Unlock the Secret of Unshakeable Faith – Abraham’s Journey Revealed!
The Unlikely Hero Who Changed History (And How You Can Too)
Friends, gather ’round, because I’ve got a story that’ll knock your socks off. It’s about a guy named Abram – just your average Joe living in ancient Mesopotamia. He wasn’t a superhero or a scholar. Heck, he was probably more interested in his flocks than changing the world.
But then, out of the blue, God shows up and says, “Pack your bags, Abram. We’re going on an adventure!”
Now, most of us would’ve laughed it off or asked for a detailed itinerary. But not our man Abram. He just… went. No questions asked. Can you imagine uprooting your entire life based on a promise?
That’s the kind of faith that moves mountains, folks. And here’s the kicker – Abram (later Abraham) had no idea where this journey would lead. He was stepping into the great unknown, armed with nothing but trust in God’s promise.
