Matthew 16:13-20: The Great Confession

Observation (O): In context, Jesus asks His disciples who people say He is and then asks them directly who they believe He is. Peter answers plainly: Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Jesus blesses Peter’s faith, speaks of revelation from the Father, and then uses the image of building His church and giving “keys” and authority to bind and loose. The passage highlights confession of Christ, divine revelation (not human insight), and the beginning of the church’s mission and authority under Christ’s lordship.
Application (A): This week, practice a simple, concrete step: tell one person—friend, family member, or coworker—what Jesus means to you in one or two sentences. Follow that by signing up to serve once in your local church or small group this month, putting your confession into visible commitment and action.
Prayer (P): Lord Jesus, thank You for revealing who You are. Give me boldness to confess You clearly, wisdom to follow Your authority, and a willing heart to serve Your church. Help my words and actions point others to You. Amen.
