The Hidden Truths That Turns Casual Believers Into Committed Disciples. It’s not louder preaching or bigger programs – it’s a deeper understanding of what it really means to be “born again”, and why that changes everything.

This is what actually builds a strong church

Hi there,

There’s a quiet problem many churches face, People show up, but don’t transform. They listen, but don’t fully commit.

Peter addresses this head-on in 1 Peter 1:17–23.

He reminds us that faith isn’t inherited, borrowed, or surface-level – it’s personal, costly, and rooted in a life-changing truth: we’ve been born again through something eternal.

And here’s why that matters for your church:

When people understand the depth of their redemption

  • They don’t just attend – they engage.
  • They don’t just believe – they live it.
  • They don’t just gather – they grow.

Strong churches aren’t built on activity, They’re built on transformed hearts.

This message helps you move people from routine, to revival.

Chris

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:17-23

Introduction to 1 Peter 1:17-23 (NIV)

Friends, have you ever felt like you just don’t quite fit in with the world around you? Like you’re living in a culture that speaks a different language than your heart? You’re not alone! In this beautiful passage from 1 Peter, we’re going to discover that this “out of place” feeling is actually a sign of something wonderful. Peter reminds us that because of what Jesus did for us, we have a new home, a new family, and a brand-new way of living. It’s a call to move away from an empty way of life and step into a life filled with purpose, hope, and a love that actually changes the world around us.

The Events in 1 Peter 1:17-23 (NIV)

In these verses, the Apostle Peter is writing to people who are facing some really tough times. He starts by reminding them that God is a loving but fair Father, and because of that, we should live with a healthy respect for Him while we’re “just passing through” this life. He points out that our freedom wasn’t cheap-it didn’t cost money, it cost the life of Jesus, who was God’s plan from the very beginning. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we can have total confidence in God! Finally, Peter shows us the “so what”: because we’ve been given this new life through God’s Word, we are now free to love each other deeply and sincerely.

1 Peter 1:17-23 (NIV)

17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.

18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. 21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.

23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

Bible Study: Living the Purpose-Driven Life

Sermon Title: “Living Like You’re Built to Last”

Expository Sermon Outline

1. Living as a Temporary Resident (Verse 17)

Sub-heading: Keeping an Eternal Perspective

In this first section, Peter encourages us to live as “foreigners.” That means we don’t get too attached to the things of this world because we know our real home is in heaven. When we realize that God is our impartial Judge and loving Father, it changes how we spend our time. We start living with “reverent fear”-not being afraid of God, but having such a deep respect for Him that we want to make every moment count for His Kingdom.

2. Understanding Your True Value (Verses 18-21)

Sub-heading: You Were Bought with a Price

Have you ever wondered what you’re worth? Peter tells us right here! You weren’t bought with silver or gold-those things eventually rust and fade away. You were “redeemed” or bought back from a dead-end life with the precious blood of Jesus. God didn’t make this plan up at the last minute; He chose Jesus to save you before the world was even created! Because God raised Jesus from the dead, you can stop worrying about your future and put all your faith and hope in Him.

3. The Evidence of a Changed Heart (Verse 22)

Sub-heading: Loving Others Deeply

The goal of growing in your faith isn’t just to get more “head knowledge”; it’s to have a “heart change.” Peter says that when we obey the truth, it purifies us. And how do we know we’re being purified? It shows up in how we treat the people around us! We are called to have a “sincere love” for our brothers and sisters in Christ. This isn’t just a polite “hello” on Sundays; it’s a deep, “from the heart” kind of love that shows the world we belong to Jesus.

4. A Life Built on the Word (Verse 23)

Sub-heading: Planted with Imperishable Seed

Finally, we see that this new life we have isn’t something we manufactured ourselves. We’ve been “born again.” Just like a plant grows from a seed, our new life grows from the “imperishable seed” of God’s Word. Everything else in this world is going to eventually pass away, but God’s Word is living and enduring. When you build your life on the Bible, you’re building on a foundation that can never be destroyed. That’s the secret to a life that lasts forever!
