Section 2. Call to Worship

Let’s turn our hearts and minds to God as we read from 1 Timothy 6:6: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Let’s reflect on this truth together:

Leader: Are you content with what you have?
Congregation: We strive for contentment in God.
Leader: Are you seeking true riches?
Congregation: We seek the riches of godliness.
Leader: Then let us worship God with grateful hearts!

Section 3. Opening Prayer

Dear Lord, we come before you today with hearts full of gratitude and expectation. Thank you for this opportunity to gather together, to learn from your Word, and to grow in our faith. We ask that you would open our hearts and minds to receive what you have for us today. Help us to apply your truth to our lives, so that we may become more like you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Section 4. Praise and Worship

Now, let’s lift our voices together in praise and worship! We’re going to sing a few songs that will help us focus on God’s love, grace, and faithfulness. Whether you prefer contemporary worship or classic hymns, let’s join together as one voice to adore our King!

(Congregational singing, led by a worship team or choir)

Section 5. Scripture Reading

Today, we’re going to be diving into 1 Timothy 6:6-19. In this passage, Paul is writing to Timothy, offering some powerful insights about wealth, contentment, and true life. He’s not just talking about money; he’s talking about our hearts and our priorities.

1 Timothy 6:6-19 (NIV)

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

11 But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you 14 to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

17 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer

Let’s come before God now in prayer, asking for his guidance and help as we seek to live out these truths.

Intercessory Prayer:

Father, we thank you for your Word that speaks so clearly to our hearts. We pray for those who are struggling with the temptation to chase after wealth, that you would give them strength to resist and to find their contentment in you alone. Help us all to be generous and willing to share what we have, knowing that true riches are found in serving you and others.

Congregational Prayer Response:

Lord, help us to “take hold of the life that is truly life,” as we put our hope in you and not in earthly possessions. Amen.

Section 7. Offering

Now, as we prepare to give our tithes and offerings, let’s remember that this is an act of worship. It’s a way of saying thank you to God for all that he has given us. It’s also a way of supporting the work of the church, so that we can continue to share the good news of Jesus with the world.

Let’s pray:

Gracious God, we thank you for the opportunity to give back a portion of what you have so generously given to us. Bless these offerings, Lord, and use them to advance your kingdom and to meet the needs of those around us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Section 8. Special Music

Now, let’s enjoy a special song that will lift our hearts and minds even higher.

Bible Study: Escape the Rat Race & Discover True Riches (Before It’s Too Late!)

“Is your pursuit of ‘more’ leaving you feeling empty? What if I told you the Bible reveals a secret to lasting wealth that has nothing to do with your bank account?”

I remember a time when I was so focused on building my ministry, on reaching more people, that I nearly lost sight of what was truly important. I was working day and night, sacrificing time with my family, and constantly striving for the next big thing.

Then, one day, I stumbled across 1 Timothy 6:6. It hit me like a ton of bricks: “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” I realized I had been chasing the wrong kind of riches. I had been so busy building an empire that I had forgotten to nurture my own soul.

That moment changed everything. I made a conscious decision to shift my focus from outward success to inward peace. I started spending more time in prayer, more time with my loved ones, and more time serving others.

And guess what? My ministry didn’t suffer. In fact, it flourished! When I focused on God first, everything else fell into place.

This week, I’m inviting you to join me on a journey to discover the secret to true riches – the kind that lasts for eternity.
