Section 5. Scripture Reading

Today, we’re diving into a powerful passage from Paul’s second letter to Timothy.

The Events in 2 Timothy 2:8-15

In this passage, Paul is encouraging Timothy, a young pastor, to remain strong in his faith and to continue to preach the Gospel, even in the face of opposition and suffering. He reminds Timothy to remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, and to be diligent in handling the Word of truth. Paul emphasizes the importance of avoiding foolish and unlearned questions and focusing on presenting oneself to God as an approved worker.

2 Timothy 2:8-15 (NIV)

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

11 Here is a trustworthy saying:

If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer

Let’s come before the Lord now in prayer, lifting up those who need His touch.

Intercessory Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word that encourages us to remember Jesus Christ and to be faithful workers. We lift up those who are suffering, those who are facing opposition for their faith, and those who feel discouraged. Give them strength, Lord. Help them to remember that your Word is not chained and that you are always faithful. We also pray for our church, that we would be a community of believers who are diligent in handling the Word of truth and who are approved by you.

Congregational Prayer Response

(After the Intercessory Prayer, the congregation responds)

Lord, hear our prayers. Help us to be faithful workers, approved by you, and unashamed to share your truth.

Section 7. Offering

Now it’s time for us to give back to God a portion of what He has so generously given to us.

Message

Your tithes and offerings are an act of worship, a way of expressing our gratitude and trust in God’s provision. They enable us to support the ministries of our church and to reach out to those in need in our community and around the world.

Prayer

Gracious God, we thank you for the abundance you have poured into our lives. We offer these tithes and offerings as a sign of our love and devotion to you. May they be used to further your kingdom and bring glory to your name. Amen.

Section 8. Special Music

From Chains to Champions – How Remembering Jesus Can Set You Free

Hey everyone,

Ever feel like you’re chained down by something? Maybe it’s a bad habit, a difficult relationship, or just a feeling of being stuck in life. Well, Paul knew a thing or two about chains. In 2 Timothy, he writes about suffering “even to the point of being chained like a criminal” for the sake of the Gospel.

But here’s the amazing thing: even in chains, Paul’s spirit wasn’t chained. He was still free to preach the Gospel, to encourage Timothy, and to trust in God’s faithfulness. And that’s because he remembered Jesus Christ, raised from the dead.

You see, remembering Jesus is the key to unlocking freedom, even when we’re facing difficult circumstances. When we remember His sacrifice for us, His victory over death, and His promise of eternal life, we can find strength, courage, and hope in the midst of our struggles.

So, what “chains” are you facing today? Maybe you’re struggling with doubt, fear, or temptation. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of life. I want to encourage you to remember Jesus. Remember His love for you, His power to transform your life, and His promise to never leave you.

When you remember Jesus, you can break free from the chains that are holding you back and become the champion God has called you to be.
