Let’s prepare our hearts to worship our amazing God. As Jeremiah 18:6 says, “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.” Let’s respond together:
Leader: We are the clay…
Congregation: …He is the potter!
Leader: Mold us, shape us…
Congregation: …according to Your will!
Now, let’s sing a song that reminds us of God’s loving hand shaping our lives.
Section 3. Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, we come before you today with open hearts, ready to receive your guidance and love. Thank you for your grace, your mercy, and your unending patience with us. As we gather together, help us to focus on your word, to learn from it, and to apply it to our lives. Fill this place with your presence, and let your Spirit move among us. We ask all of this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Section 4. Praise and Worship
Let’s lift our voices together in praise! Our worship team has prepared a wonderful selection of songs to help us connect with God and express our love for Him. Whether it’s a contemporary song that gets you moving or a classic hymn that touches your soul, let’s sing with all our hearts and focus our minds on the One who is worthy of all our praise.
Section 5. Scripture Reading
Today, we’re going to dive into the book of Jeremiah, specifically chapter 18, verses 1 through 11. Jeremiah was a prophet who God used to deliver some tough messages to the people of Israel.
About the Verse Events
In this passage, God tells Jeremiah to go down to the potter’s house. There, Jeremiah sees the potter working at his wheel, and when a pot is marred in his hands, the potter reshapes it into another pot, as it seems good to him. God uses this powerful image to illustrate His sovereignty and His ability to reshape and mold us according to His will. It’s a reminder that even when we mess up, God can still use us for His purposes.
Jeremiah 18:1-11 (NIV)
1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” 3 So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. 4 But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel. 7 If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, 8 and if that nation repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it.
11 “Now therefore say to the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem, ‘This is what the Lord says: Look! I am preparing a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. So turn from your evil ways, each one of you, and reform your conduct and your actions.’”
Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Let’s bow our heads and lift our hearts to God in prayer.
Intercessory Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your Word, which reminds us that you are the potter and we are the clay. We confess that we often feel marred and broken, but we know that you are able to reshape us into something beautiful and useful for your kingdom. We lift up those in our congregation and community who are struggling today – those who feel lost, discouraged, or overwhelmed. Mold them, shape them, and fill them with your peace and your purpose. We ask for your guidance, your wisdom, and your strength in all that we do.
Congregational Prayer Response:
Lord, help us to turn from our evil ways and reform our conduct and our actions, just as Jeremiah called the people of Judah to do.
Section 7. Offering
It’s now time for us to give back to God a portion of what He has so generously given to us. Our tithes and offerings are not just about supporting the church; they are an act of worship, a way of expressing our gratitude and our commitment to God’s work.
Let’s pray:
Gracious God, we thank you for the abundance you have provided in our lives. We offer these tithes and offerings as an act of worship, trusting that you will use them to further your kingdom and bless others. May our giving be a reflection of our love for you and our desire to serve you faithfully. Amen.
Section 8. Special Music
And now, we have a special musical performance prepared for us today!
