Let’s turn our hearts and minds to God as we begin our worship today. Let’s read together from Psalm 118:1-2:
Psalm 118:1-2 (NIV): “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Let Israel say: ‘His love endures forever.'”
Let’s take a moment to reflect on God’s goodness and His unending love for each of us.
Section 3. Opening Prayer
Dear Lord, we come before you today with grateful hearts, thankful for your presence in our lives. Open our hearts and minds to receive your word, and help us to grow in faith and love. Guide us as we worship together, and may your spirit fill this place. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Section 4. Praise and Worship
Now, let’s lift our voices together in praise and worship! Our worship team has prepared a selection of songs that will help us focus on God’s greatness and express our love for Him. Whether it’s a contemporary song or a classic hymn, let’s sing with all our hearts and give glory to God!
Section 5. Scripture Reading
Today, we’ll be diving into a powerful passage from the Gospel of Luke. This passage tells the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, a pivotal moment in His ministry.
In Luke 19:28-40, we see Jesus approaching Jerusalem, sending his disciples ahead to find a colt for him to ride. As he enters the city, a large crowd spreads their cloaks on the road, and others lay down branches, hailing him as the king who comes in the name of the Lord. The Pharisees, however, are troubled by this display and urge Jesus to rebuke his disciples. But Jesus responds that if they were silent, even the stones would cry out.
Let’s read the passage together:
Luke 19:28-40 (NIV):
28 After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29 As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30 “Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it.’”
32 Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33 As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 They replied, “The Lord needs it.”
35 They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.
37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!”
40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Lord, we thank you for the powerful message in this passage. We pray for those who are seeking you, that they may recognize you as the King who comes in your name. Help us to be bold in our praise and not be silenced by the voices of doubt or opposition.
Congregational Prayer Response:
(Based on Luke 19:38) “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”
Section 7. Offering
Now, let’s take a moment to give back to God through our tithes and offerings. Giving is an act of worship, a way to express our gratitude for all that God has given us. Your generosity helps support the ministry of our church and allows us to reach out to those in need.
Let’s pray: Dear Lord, we thank you for the blessings you have poured out upon us. We offer these gifts as an act of worship, trusting that you will use them to further your kingdom and bless others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
