I built ShortPowerfulSermons.com as a purpose-driven online ministry centered around complete Bible Studies and Sermons.
Each week, I take Revised Common Lectionary Scripture passages and develop them into approachable Bible Studies, sermon resources, and practical teaching materials designed especially for people who may not have hours, or an entire ministry staff, to prepare.
But the website has become more than a collection of sermons. For me, it’s about using the technology and skills I’ve accumulated over a lifetime to help someone else share the Gospel.
3. The Story or Conversation Angle I Would Bring to the Show
“What happens when you can no longer serve your calling the way you once did, but discover technology gives you another way to serve?”
That’s really the story I’d love to talk about. I’ve spent much of my life around business, technology, marketing, and ministry. There came a point when I could no longer serve from the pulpit the way I once did.
I could have looked at that as the end of something. Instead, it became the beginning of something different.
I realized that I could take what I knew about Scripture, communication, technology, websites, and online marketing and use those tools to help other people prepare to preach and teach.
That became Short Powerful Sermons.com and it taught me something important about purpose:
Your purpose doesn’t necessarily disappear when your circumstances change. Sometimes the way you fulfill that purpose simply changes.
That’s the conversation I’d bring to the podcast, the intersection of faith, purpose, technology, entrepreneurship, aging, changing circumstances, and finding another way to continue making a difference.
4. Notable Milestones, Challenges, and Turning Points
One of the biggest turning points was realizing that the website didn’t need to be about me preaching sermons. It could be about helping someone else preach better sermons and more engaging Bible Studies. Today, Short Powerful Sermons provides weekly Scripture-based Bible Studies and sermon resources for pastors, bi-vocational pastors, lay speakers, Bible study leaders, Sunday school teachers, and other church leaders.
But the milestone I’m most proud of isn’t a traffic number or a dollar amount. It’s knowing that something I create at my computer can help a pastor prepare for Sunday, help a lay speaker walk into a pulpit with greater confidence, help a Bible study leader start a meaningful conversation, or help someone understand Scripture a little differently.
I may not always be the person standing behind the pulpit, but I can still help the person who is.
And for me, that’s what makes Short Powerful Sermons purpose-driven.
