When the Almighty puts ‘humility’ at the top of His job requirements.
Why Your Weakness is Actually Your Greatest Strength
(The Shocking Truth God Wants You to Know)
Friend, have you ever felt like you just don’t measure up? Like everyone else has it more together, more wisdom, more influence, more “spiritual maturity”?
Maybe you look at your life-your past mistakes, your current struggles, the areas where you feel completely inadequate-and you think, “God could never use someone like me.”
What if I told you that your very sense of weakness, your feeling of being “not enough,” might actually be the exact qualification God is looking for?
That the very thing you’re trying to hide could be the platform God wants to use to display His greatest power?
The world calls it foolishness. God calls it the foundation of everything that matters. Let me explain…
I’ll never forget a conversation I had with a young woman in our church-let’s call her Sarah. Sarah felt called to start a support group for single moms, but she was paralyzed. “I’m the last person who should lead this,” she told me. “My own life is messy. I’m still figuring things out. I don’t have a perfect story.”
She had bought the lie that God only uses polished, finished products.
I asked her to read 1 Corinthians 1 with me. We read about how God deliberately chooses the weak things, the foolish things, the things that are not-to shame the strong and the wise. I watched her face change as the truth sank in.
“Your ‘messy’ story isn’t a disqualification,” I told her. “It’s your credential. Those other single moms won’t connect with a perfect leader. They’ll connect with a real one who knows what it’s like to depend on God’s grace every single day.”
Sarah started the group. It wasn’t flashy. There were donuts and coffee and sometimes tears. But God showed up in powerful ways. Lives were changed-not because Sarah was a powerhouse, but because she was a living example of God’s strength being perfected in weakness. Her feeling of inadequacy became the very space where God’s adequacy shone brightest.
That’s the kind of paradigm-shifting truth I’ve unpacked in a complete, ready-to-use sermon. It’s called “God’s Foolish Wisdom: Finding Your Strength in Weakness.”

Sermon Title: God’s Foolish Wisdom: Finding Your Strength in Weakness
The Great Reversal: How God Turns Worldly Wisdom Upside Down
An Expository Outline of 1 Corinthians 1:18-31
I. The Dividing Line: The Message of the Cross (1 Corinthians 1:18-25)
Explanation: Paul begins by stating that the message of the cross-the story of God’s Son dying a criminal’s death to save sinners-is a dividing line in the universe. To those who are perishing, it seems like absolute foolishness, a ridiculous fairy tale. But to those who are being saved, it is the very power of God. He then contrasts human wisdom with God’s wisdom. The world seeks signs and philosophical brilliance, but God’s wisdom is displayed in the “foolishness” of the cross. What looks like God’s weakness (Christ crucified) is actually stronger than any human strength.
II. The Divine Selection: Why God Chooses the “Nobodies” (1 Corinthians 1:26-29)
Explanation: Paul asks the Corinthians to look at their own lives as evidence. Not many were wise, influential, or of noble birth when God called them. Instead, God deliberately chose the foolish, weak, lowly, and despised things of the world. Why? So that no one can boast before Him. If God only used the talented, wise, and powerful, we would be tempted to think salvation and ministry were human achievements. By using the unlikely and the unqualified, God ensures that all the glory goes to Him alone. Our weakness is the perfect canvas for His strength.
III. The True Source: Boasting Only in the Lord (1 Corinthians 1:30-31)
Explanation: Having established that we bring nothing to the table, Paul delivers the glorious conclusion. Because of God’s action in Christ, He Himself has become everything for us. Christ is our wisdom from God-our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. Therefore, any boasting is completely redirected. We don’t boast in our intellect, our accomplishments, our spiritual pedigree, or our strength. We boast only in the Lord. Our identity and our confidence are found exclusively in who He is and what He has done for us.
