I Still Can’t Find the Right One! Mama said even the Bible says Words matter. But I can’t seem to get mine out before a cup of coffee and a prayer
Bible Study: John 1:1-18
Headline: “The Day Heaven Stepped Into Your World: How John 1 Reveals the God Who Refuses to Stay Distant”
When you realize that the Word became flesh, something powerful happens – you understand that faith isn’t about climbing up to God, it’s about recognizing how far He came to reach you.
A few years ago, a young mom told me she felt “invisible to God.” She prayed, she went to church, but she said it always felt like God was far away – somewhere “up there,” too big and too busy to worry about her.
Then one night during Christmas week, she opened her Bible and read John 1:14: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” And she said it hit her like a wave of warmth – God hadn’t stayed distant; He moved in next door.
That’s what John 1 is all about. Jesus didn’t come to judge from afar – He came to walk among us, to show us God in human hands and a loving face. That truth changed her life – and it can change yours too.

Bible Study and Sermon Outline: John 1:1-18
Sermon Title: “When God Moved In: The Miracle of the Word Made Flesh”
1. The Eternal Word (John 1:1-5)
In these opening verses, John makes it clear – Jesus didn’t start in Bethlehem; He has always been. He is the Word who was with God and is God. Everything that exists flows from Him. This truth grounds our faith: Jesus isn’t just another teacher – He’s the Creator stepping into His creation to bring light into our darkness.
2. The Witness to the Word (John 1:6-8)
John the Baptist reminds us that every believer has a role to play in pointing others toward the Light. He wasn’t the Light but came to testify about it. Likewise, our purpose isn’t to draw attention to ourselves, but to reflect Jesus so that others may see Him clearly through us.
3. The Rejected Word (John 1:9-13)
Even though the true Light came into the world He created, many didn’t recognize Him. Yet, for those who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God. Salvation isn’t about heritage or effort – it’s about believing in the One who came to make us new.
4. The Word Became Flesh (John 1:14-18)
Here lies the heart of the gospel: God took on flesh, stepping into our world to show us what grace and truth look like. Jesus didn’t just come to tell us about God; He came to reveal Him. When we look at Christ, we see the fullness of God’s love, mercy, and compassion made visible.

Scripture Reading and Invitation
Today’s call to worship comes from John 1:1-5 (NIV):
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Let these words call our hearts to worship the One who gives life and light to us all.

Section 5. Scripture Reading
Introduction to the Passage
This morning’s scripture comes from the book of John 1:1-18 (NIV) – a passage that reveals the heart of God’s story: Jesus – the eternal Word – entering human history to bring light and grace to all people.
The Events in the Scripture
John paints a breathtaking picture of who Jesus truly is: the divine Word through whom all things were created, who became human to dwell among us. This passage reminds us that God’s love isn’t distant or abstract – it’s personal, present, and powerful.
Scripture: John 1:1-18 (NIV)
John tells of the eternal Word who was with God and is God. This Word – Jesus – created all things, and in Him was life, the light of mankind. Though the world did not recognize Him, those who received Him became children of God. Finally, the passage declares that the Word became flesh, revealing God’s glory, grace, and truth to the world through Jesus Christ.
The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’”) 16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and[b] is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
