Let’s turn our hearts and minds to God as we begin our time together.
Let’s read together from Jeremiah 14:22 “Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.”
Let’s use this as a reminder that only God can bring the blessing we seek. Amen
Section 3. Opening Prayer
Father, we come before you today with open hearts, ready to receive your Word. Thank you for your love and grace that surrounds us. Guide us as we seek to understand your will for our lives. Help us to be a light in this world, shining your love to those around us. We ask all this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our worship team has prepared some beautiful songs that will help us connect with God on a deeper level. Whether you prefer contemporary tunes or traditional hymns, let’s sing from our hearts and offer our adoration to the one who is worthy of all praise.
Section 5. Scripture Reading
Today, we’re going to explore a powerful passage from the book of Jeremiah.
Jeremiah was a prophet who lived in a time of great turmoil in Israel. The people had turned away from God and were facing difficult consequences. In this passage, we see Jeremiah pouring out his heart to God, pleading for mercy and forgiveness on behalf of his people.
Jeremiah 14:7-22 (NIV)
7 “Although our sins testify against us, act, Lord, for your name’s sake; our rebellions indeed are many; we have sinned against you. 8 You who are the hope of Israel, its Savior in times of distress, why are you like a stranger in the land, like a traveler who stays only a night? 9 Why are you like a warrior taken by surprise, like a champion powerless to save? You are among us, Lord, and we bear your name; do not forsake us!
10 This is what the Lord says about this people: “They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.” 11 Then the Lord said to me, “Do not pray for the well-being of this people. 12 Although they fast, I will not listen when they call; although they offer burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Instead, I will destroy them with the sword, famine and plague.”
19 Have you completely rejected Judah? Does your heart loathe Zion? Why have you struck us down so that there is no healing for us? We hoped for peace but no good has come, for a time of healing but there is only terror. 20 We know our wickedness, Lord, and the guilt of our ancestors; we have indeed sinned against you. 21 For your name’s sake do not despise us; do not dishonor your glorious throne. Remember your covenant with us and do not break it.
22 Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, Lord our God. Therefore our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.”
Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Let’s join together in prayer, lifting up those needs that are on our hearts.
Lord, we come to you today with humility, acknowledging our need for your guidance and mercy. Just as Jeremiah pleaded for his people, we too ask for your forgiveness for our sins. We lift up those who are struggling, those who are facing difficult circumstances, and those who are in need of your healing touch. May your peace surround them and give them strength.
Congregational Prayer Response: Lord, hear our prayer!

Section 10. Sermon Outline
Sermon Title: “Turning Back: Finding Hope in a Time of Crisis”
I. Acknowledging Our Sins (Jeremiah 14:7-9)
- Sub-Heading: “Honest Confession: The First Step Back to God”
- In these verses, Jeremiah admits the sins of the people. It’s so important to be honest with God about our shortcomings. We can’t fix what we don’t acknowledge. Confession opens the door to forgiveness and healing.
II. God’s Response and Warning (Jeremiah 14:10-12)
- Sub-Heading: “Consequences and Grace: Understanding God’s Justice”
- God explains why they are in crisis and what it means to follow the wrong path. God’s love doesn’t mean he ignores sin; it means he cares enough to correct us, so he warns them and calls them to repentance.
III. A Plea for Mercy (Jeremiah 14:19-22)
- Sub-Heading: “Hope Remains: Turning Back to the Source”
- Though everything looks dire, Jeremiah doesn’t give up hope. He reminds God of his covenant and his promise to Israel. Even when we are facing the consequences of our actions, it’s never too late to turn back to God and seek His mercy.
