Core Message:

It’s great to be with you today and have the opportunity to share this important passage from Matthew 28:16-20. This is commonly known as The Great Commission, where Jesus gave his disciples the command to go and make disciples of all nations.

As we read this passage, we see that the first thing the disciples did was to worship Jesus. This is an important reminder for us today that our primary focus should always be on Jesus, and not on our own agenda or plans.

Jesus then gave his disciples the task of making disciples of all nations. This is a big task, but it is something that we are all called to do as followers of Jesus. We are called to share the good news of Jesus with those around us, and to help them become followers of Jesus themselves.

Jesus also gave his disciples the promise that he would be with them always, even to the end of the age. This is a great comfort to us as we go out and share the message of Jesus with others. We can be confident that Jesus is with us every step of the way, and that he will empower us to do the work that he has called us to do.

So as we go out into the world and make disciples of all nations, let us remember to keep our focus on Jesus, to share the good news of Jesus with others, and to trust in the promise that he will be with us always.

Opening Prayer:

God of love,
your Wisdom sings your Word
at the crossroads where humanity and divinity meet.
Invite us to be disciples,
where you know and are known
in each beginning,
in all sustenance,
in every redemption,
that we may manifest your unity
in the diverse ministries you entrust to us,
truly reflecting your triune majesty
in the faith that acts,
in the hope that does not disappoint,
and in the love that endures. Amen.

Scripture: Matthew 28:16-20 The Great Commission

The Great Commission

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
