Baby Dedication Service
A Sacred Celebration of Life and Faith!
1. Opening Words (Pastor)
Beloved family of faith, today we come together in a spirit of joy and gratitude to dedicate this precious child to the Lord. We stand in awe of the gift of life and the responsibility entrusted to all present. As (The Ones who First Loved This Child, Mom & Dad, God Parents if Used, Sponsor Family) bring their child before God and this congregation, they declare their desire to raise them in a home where Christ is honored, His Word is taught, and His love is lived out. Today is not just a dedication of this child—it is a commitment from all of us to support and nurture them in faith and love.
2. Scripture Readings (Read by Pastor or Family Member)
Deuteronomy 6:5-7 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children.
Mark 10:13-16 – Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” And He took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them, and blessed them.
3. Charge to Those Who Choose to Raise This Child: (Pastor Addresses the Parents)
God has graciously given you this child—a precious soul created in His image. Today, as you stand before this church family, do you commit to raising your child in a Christ-centered home? Will you teach them to know and love the Lord, to pray, and to walk in the ways of Jesus? Will you strive to be an example of faith, grace, and love in their life?
Parents Respond: “We do, with God’s help.”
4. Charge to the Congregation (Pastor Addresses the Church)
Church Family, we are not just spectators today—we are participants in this holy moment. As the body of Christ, we have a sacred calling to walk alongside this family. Will you commit to praying for this child, encouraging their faith, and modeling the love of Christ? Will you support these parents as they nurture their child in the way of the Lord?
Congregation Responds: “We will, with God’s help.”
5. Prayer of Dedication (Pastor Places Hands on the Child or Lifts Them Up in Blessing)
Heavenly Father, we thank You for this precious child. You formed them with love, You know every detail of their life, and You have a plan and a purpose for them. We ask for Your divine protection, wisdom, and grace to be upon them all the days of their life. Bless these parents, friends and family, as they guide and nurture them in faith. May this child grow in wisdom, strength, and the fullness of Your love. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior, we dedicate this child to You. Amen.
6. Presentation of Certificate or Bible (Optional)
As a token of this sacred moment, we present this certificate (or Bible) to the family, a reminder of their commitment today and of God’s unending love and faithfulness.
7. Closing Blessing & Congregational Response
And now, may the Lord bless this child and keep them. May His face shine upon them and be gracious to them. May they walk in faith, hope, and love all the days of their life. And all God’s people said…
Congregation Responds: “Amen!”
Prayer for the Sick or Infirmed
We pray for those who are frail, facing serious illness, surgery, or the effects of old age, that they may receive the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure their sufferings in a Christian manner.
We ask for the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person for the salvation of their soul. We also pray for those who care for the sick, that they may be strengthened and supported in their service, and for doctors, nurses, and other professional caregivers, that they may be guided by wisdom, strength, skill, and generosity.
We lift up to You all who are suffering from debilitating or terminal illness, those who are blind, deaf, lost, or whose minds have lost their reason, and those who must live with a handicap. We ask for Your healing power to flow through every part of their body.
We believe in the healing power of faith and prayer, and we claim the promises of Your Word over them. We trust in You, Lord, and in You alone to heal them. We ask that You bless them with Your loving care, renew their strength, and heal what ails them in Your loving name. We pray that You would grant them patience under their affliction and restore them to health in Your good time, enabling them to llives their life in Your Blessing and to Your glory. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Funeral or Memorial Service Prayer
Eternal God,
we praise you for the great company of all those
who have finished their course in faith
and now rest from their labor.
We praise you for those dear to us
whom we name in our hearts before you.
Especially we praise you for Name,
whom you have graciously received into your presence.
To all of these, grant your peace.
Let perpetual light shine upon them;
and help us so to believe where we have not seen,
that your presence may lead us through our years,
and bring us at last with them
into the joy of your home
not made with hands but eternal in the heavens;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
