Delivery Time: 36 minutes

Without Love, You’re Just Noise. Pro-tip: If someone says “love is patient” while standing in line for coffee, they’re just quoting Paul.

Section 2. Call to Worship

This morning, let’s quiet our hearts and turn our focus toward the One who deserves all honor and praise. Hear these words from Psalm 100:4-5:

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”

Let us worship the Lord together with joy and gratitude, knowing His love is everlasting.

Section 3. Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,
We come before You with hearts full of gratitude for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. Thank You for bringing us together today as Your family. May this time of worship draw us closer to You and remind us of the power of Your love. Open our hearts to hear Your Word and transform us to reflect Your love in all we do. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

Section 4. Praise and Worship

As we enter into a time of worship, let’s lift our voices and hearts to God. Worship is more than singing—it’s an expression of our love and devotion to Him. Whether we sing an old hymn or a new song, let’s give God the praise He deserves.

Section 5. Scripture Reading

Introduction

Today, we’re turning to one of the most treasured passages in the Bible: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13. This chapter reminds us that love is not just a feeling—it’s an action, a choice, and a reflection of God’s character. Paul wrote this to a church struggling with division and pride, urging them to pursue the higher calling of love.

The Events

In these verses, Paul describes what true, Christlike love looks like. He explains that without love, even the most impressive achievements or sacrifices are meaningless. Love is patient, kind, selfless, and enduring. It is the greatest of all virtues and the foundation of our faith.

NIV Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.
12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory Prayer

Father, we come to You as Your children, asking for Your guidance as we strive to live lives marked by love. Teach us to be patient, kind, and forgiving, even when it’s difficult. Help us to reflect Your love in our families, workplaces, and communities. Fill our hearts with Your Spirit so that we may love as You have loved us.

Congregational Prayer Response

Lord, help us to live out the truth of Your Word: that without love, we are nothing. May our faith, hope, and love abound, but let love always be the greatest. Amen.

Section 7. Offering

Message

Giving is an act of worship and an opportunity to express our love and gratitude to God. When we give, we honor Him and make a difference in the lives of others. Let’s give generously, trusting that God will use our gifts to further His kingdom.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for blessing us with so much. We offer these tithes and offerings as an act of worship, knowing that everything we have comes from You. Use these gifts to bless others and advance Your work in this world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How This One Truth About Love Will Transform Your Life (And Everyone Around You… Even the Difficult Ones)”

When I first read 1 Corinthians 13, I’ll admit—I skimmed it. Love is patient, love is kind… sure, I’d heard it at weddings and seen it cross-stitched on pillows. But then something happened that brought this passage to life in a way I’ll never forget.

Years ago, I was struggling in a relationship. It wasn’t romantic—it was with someone I couldn’t seem to get along with no matter how hard I tried. They were quick to criticize, slow to forgive, and honestly, they felt impossible to love. I had exhausted every ounce of patience I had. That’s when God brought me back to this passage.

“Love is patient, love is kind…”

Suddenly, I realized this wasn’t just poetic language or a checklist for a perfect marriage. This was a divine challenge—a call to live out love in its rawest, hardest, and most beautiful form. It wasn’t about warm feelings or being “nice.” It was about choosing to show patience when I was ready to give up, choosing kindness when I wanted to retaliate, and choosing humility when my pride was screaming to win.

And here’s the kicker: Paul makes it clear that without love, everything else we do is meaningless. All the “good” things we accomplish, all the gifts and talents we bring to the table—they’re nothing without love. Like a clanging cymbal or a resounding gong, our lives become noise if love isn’t at the center.

That realization changed everything. I didn’t instantly become a perfect, loving person (spoiler: still not there), but it shifted my perspective. It reminded me that God’s love for me is the ultimate example, and if I truly want to grow as a follower of Christ, that love has to flow through me—even to the people who feel “unlovable.”

That’s the beauty of 1 Corinthians 13. It’s not just a passage to be read; it’s a lifestyle to be lived. It’s the foundation for spiritual growth, the heartbeat of discipleship, and the essence of what it means to reflect Jesus to the world around us.
