Whether it’s pumpkin spice season or pollen season, Paul says always be ready.  Apparently, there’s no “off-season” for sharing hope — just extra caffeine. Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season…”

Section 5. Scripture Reading

Today, we’re diving into 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5. In this passage, Paul is encouraging Timothy to remain steadfast in his faith and continue to teach the truth of God’s Word. It’s a powerful reminder for all of us to hold onto the things we’ve learned and to share the Gospel with others.

The Events in 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5

Paul reminds Timothy of his upbringing, steeped in the Scriptures, and urges him to continue in what he has learned. He emphasizes the power and importance of Scripture for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness. Paul then charges Timothy to preach the Word, be prepared in season and out of season, correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and careful instruction. He knows that times will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine, but will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

2 Timothy 3:14-4:5 (NIV)

3:14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

4:1 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer

Lord, we lift up our hearts to you, grateful for the gift of your Word. We pray for strength to continue in what we have learned, just as Paul encouraged Timothy. Help us to be diligent in studying your Scriptures, so that we may be equipped for every good work. Give us wisdom to discern truth from error, and boldness to proclaim the Gospel, even when it’s unpopular.

Congregational Prayer Response

Help us, Lord, to be faithful disciples, holding fast to your Word and sharing your love with the world. Amen.

Section 7. Offering

Let’s take a moment to give back to God, as an act of worship. Your tithes and offerings help support the ministries of our church, enabling us to reach out to our community and share the love of Christ. Thank you for your generosity and faithfulness.

Prayer of Thanks

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the blessings you have poured out upon us. We offer these gifts as a token of our gratitude and love. Use them to further your kingdom and to bless those in need. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
