Section 5. Scripture Reading

Introduction to Luke 6:27-38

In today’s passage, Jesus gives us one of the most radical teachings in all of Scripture: love your enemies. Instead of responding with anger, we are called to respond with grace. Instead of keeping score, we are called to give generously. This kind of love sets us apart—it is the love of Christ at work in us.

The Events in the Passage

Jesus was teaching His disciples about what it truly means to follow Him. The world tells us to love those who love us back, but Jesus calls us to a higher standard—to love even those who wrong us. He reminds us that when we give, when we show mercy, and when we forgive, we reflect the very heart of God.

Luke 6:27-38 (NIV)

27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.
30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.
31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.
34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Section 6. Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer

Intercessory Prayer

Father, we ask for Your strength to love as You love. Help us to extend grace where it’s difficult, to show kindness where it’s undeserved, and to forgive as You have forgiven us. May our actions reflect Your heart in every interaction. Let our lives be a testimony of Your radical love. Amen.

Congregational Prayer Response

All: Lord, teach us to love without limits, to give without expectation, and to forgive as You have forgiven us. Amen.

Section 7. Offering

The Heart of Giving

Giving is an act of worship. It’s not about obligation—it’s about trusting God with everything we have. When we give, we participate in the work of His Kingdom, meeting needs, spreading the Gospel, and showing love in tangible ways.

Prayer of Thanks

Heavenly Father, thank You for every gift given today. May these tithes and offerings be used to bring hope, healing, and Your message of love to the world. Bless every giver and provide for every need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Section 8. Special Music

A Song of Reflection

Before we dive into today’s message, let’s take a moment to reflect through this special music. Let the lyrics remind us of God’s mercy and love in action.

(Suggested Song: “The Love of God” – MercyMe)

“Jesus’ Most Uncomfortable Command – And Why It’s the Key to Your Breakthrough”

Most people love the idea of following Jesus—until they read this passage.

Love your enemies? Pray for those who mistreat you? Lend without expecting anything back?

Come on… really?

Yet, buried within these tough commands lies the greatest secret to peace, abundance, and unshakable faith. It’s not just about being “nice.” It’s about unlocking a divine principle that flips the world’s logic on its head—one that Jesus Himself modeled for us.

What if this one lesson could change everything in your life? Keep reading.

The Day Everything Changed

A few years ago, I sat across from a man who had every reason to hate.

He had been betrayed by his closest friend. Lied to. Stolen from. Left to pick up the pieces of his shattered life.

“I don’t know how to move forward,” he admitted, his voice thick with pain. “Every time I think about what happened, all I feel is anger.”

Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you know what it’s like to hold onto resentment, to replay the moment over and over, wishing things had turned out differently.

I could have told him to “let it go.” I could have quoted a few Bible verses and sent him on his way. But instead, I told him a story—the story of a Man who was betrayed by His closest friends, beaten, mocked, and nailed to a cross… and yet, with His dying breath, He forgave.

That conversation changed his life. And today, his heart is free—not because he ignored the pain, but because he chose to love in spite of it.

This is what Jesus calls us to in Luke 6:27-38. Not a life of shallow kindness, but a radical, world-shaking love that defies logic. A love that brings freedom.

And now, I want to help you share this life-changing message with your congregation.
