Mary’s request: “They have no wine.”
Jesus’ response: “Why do you involve me? My hour has not yet come.”
Translation: “Mom, not now!”
Outcome: Mary ignores him completely, tells the servants, “Do whatever he tells you,” and voilà! Sometimes even Jesus can’t win an argument with his mom.

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.”

Section 5: Scripture Reading
Introduction to John 2:1-11
Today, we’re looking at one of the most beautiful accounts of Jesus’ ministry—His first recorded miracle. This story takes place at a wedding in Cana, where Jesus turns water into wine. It’s a story of transformation, joy, and abundance, and it points us to the incredible grace of our Savior.
Events in John 2:1-11
The story begins with a celebration—a wedding! But like many celebrations, something goes wrong. The wine runs out, which would have been a significant social embarrassment for the hosts. Mary, Jesus’ mother, brings the problem to Him, and though He initially hesitates, He chooses to act. Jesus instructs the servants to fill six stone water jars with water, and when they draw from the jars, the water has been miraculously turned into wine—better wine than they had before!
Scripture Reading: John 2:1-11 (NIV)
1 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so,
9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Section 6: Pastoral Prayer or Intercessory Prayer
Intercessory Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the God of abundance, who turns our emptiness into joy and our struggles into testimonies of Your grace. We lift up those in our congregation today who are facing challenges—may they experience Your transforming power in their lives. Teach us to trust You, Lord, and remind us that You work in the everyday moments to reveal Your glory.
Congregational Prayer Response
Lord, just as You turned water into wine, transform our lives today. We trust in Your power and Your perfect timing. Amen.
Section 7: Offering
Giving as Worship
When we give, we’re not just supporting the work of the church—we’re worshiping God. Tithing is a reminder that everything we have comes from Him, and we give back as an act of trust and gratitude.
Prayer for the Offering
Lord, we thank You for the resources You’ve given us. As we give back to You today, we pray that You would bless these tithes and offerings and use them to expand Your kingdom. May they be a sweet aroma of worship before You. Amen.
Section 8: Special Music
Introduction to Special Music
Let’s prepare our hearts as we enjoy a special song that reminds us of God’s faithfulness and abundant grace.
