Introducing Joshua 5:9-12
The Israelites had just crossed into the Promised Land—a huge deal after years of wandering. In verse 9, God declares their shame from Egypt is gone, giving the place a new name, Gilgal, which means “rolling away.” Then, they celebrate Passover, their first in this new land, eating unleavened bread from the local crops. By verse 12, the manna stops—God’s way of saying, “You’re home now, and I’ve got you covered.” It’s a beautiful picture of moving from survival to thriving under God’s care.
The Word of God: Joshua 5:9-12 (NIV)
10 On the evening of the fourteenth day of the month, while camped at Gilgal on the plains of Jericho, the Israelites celebrated the Passover.
11 The day after the Passover, that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land: unleavened bread and roasted grain.
12 The manna stopped the day after they ate this food from the land; there was no longer any manna for the Israelites, but that year they ate the produce of Canaan.

The Shame-Rolling Secret God Whispered to Joshua (And Why It’s About to Change Everything for You)
The Day the Manna Stopped
Imagine you’re an Israelite, standing on the edge of Canaan. For years, you’ve woken up to manna—God’s miracle bread—dusting the ground like a divine delivery service. It’s been your lifeline through the desert, a quiet promise that He’s got you. But today’s different. Yesterday, you celebrated Passover in Gilgal, laughing over unleavened bread made from the land’s own crops. Your heart’s still buzzing from God’s words to Joshua: “I’ve rolled away the reproach of Egypt.” Shame? Gone. Slavery’s shadow? Wiped clean. You feel lighter, like a kid who just ditched a backpack full of rocks.
Then this morning—no manna. You blink, scan the ground, and nothing. Panic flickers, but then you taste the roasted grain from last night still lingering on your tongue. The land’s feeding you now. God’s not gone—He’s just shifted the script. It’s a quiet nudge: “You’re not surviving anymore; you’re thriving.” And in that moment, you realize this isn’t just about food. It’s about trust. About letting go of the old and stepping into something new.
I’ve been there too—clinging to my own “manna,” scared to trust what’s next. But here’s the thing: God’s always rolling away the old to make room for the new. And He’s whispering that same promise to you right now.
