Opening Prayer

Gracious Heavenly Father,

We come before You with hearts full of gratitude for the opportunity to gather in Your name. As we enter into this time of worship and reflection, we ask for Your presence to be palpable among us. Open our minds to receive Your truth, our hearts to embrace Your love, and our spirits to be transformed by Your Holy Spirit. Bless this gathering with Your peace and fill us with Your joy. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.

Introduction to Scripture The Events in Luke 24:36-48

In this passage from the Gospel of Luke, we witness a profound moment in the aftermath of Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples are gathered together, still grappling with the reality of Jesus’ triumph over death. Suddenly, Jesus appears in their midst, offering them peace and reassurance. Despite their initial shock and disbelief, Jesus lovingly reveals Himself to them, showing His scars as proof of His resurrection. He then proceeds to open their minds to understand the Scriptures, fulfilling the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Jesus commissions His disciples to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins in His name, ushering in a new era of grace and redemption.

NIV Bible Verse: Luke 24:36-48

36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.”

37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.

38 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?

39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.”

40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.

41 And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?”

42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish,

43 and he took it and ate it in their presence.

44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.”

45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,

47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

48 You are witnesses of these things.

Intercessory Prayer

Gracious Lord,

As we reflect on the encounter between Jesus and His disciples, we are reminded of Your enduring love and faithfulness. Just as You comforted and reassured Your disciples, we pray that You would also be present with us in our moments of doubt and fear. Open our minds to understand Your Word and empower us to proclaim Your truth with boldness and conviction. May Your message of repentance and forgiveness resonate in our hearts and minds, transforming us into faithful witnesses of Your grace. Guide us, Lord, as we strive to live out our calling as disciples, spreading Your love and mercy to all nations. In Jesus’ name, we pray.

Amen.
