Luke 4:14-21 Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 He was teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.
16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. He stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[a]
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures
Throughout the Old Testament, there are countless prophecies about the coming of the Messiah. When we understand these prophecies in their proper context, we can see more clearly how Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures.
Jesus is the fulfillment of the Scriptures in two ways. First, Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets. The Law is a commandment of God that was given at the time of the Israelites. Christ fulfilled this law in two ways: he obediently obeyed it, and he fulfilled it through a sacrifice of his own life.
Second, Jesus was empowered by the Spirit. This Spirit foretold Christ’s acceptance by Israel, and testified to the glory of Christ. The Spirit also testified to the sufferings of Christ. The Spirit also foretold that Jesus would one day return to the throne of his glory.
Jesus is the year of God’s favor
Isaiah 61:2: “This is the acceptable year of the Lord; let us rejoice and be glad” – What is the significance of this verse? In fact, the acceptable year of the Lord is an indication of a time when God’s grace and deliverance are made available. This season of grace is available now, not in the distant future.
The word “acceptable” is a Greek translation of the Hebrew word yobhel. Yobhel means “the time of a jubilee”. The year of a jubilee was a time when everyone rested and debts were forgiven. It is also a time when the people of Israel were released from captivity.
The year of a jubilee began with the blowing of a ram’s horn. A jubilee year also freed slaves, and restored land to the original owners. The year of a jubilee also lifted the heavy weight of poverty and hopelessness.
Jesus’ purpose is in a higher dimension
Until Jesus came into the world, people couldn’t understand how God worked out his plans. The plan was for the nation of Israel to bless the world. It was also for the gentiles to be blessed.
Jesus made a point of coming into the world to fulfill this plan, although he never spoke about it in a direct way. He did, however, speak about the multidimensional wisdom of God. This is the gospel of Jesus Christ. It brings peace, reconciliation, and equality of status. The gospel gets more glorious as it increases in number of dimensions.
The multidimensional wisdom of God is the summation of all things in Christ. It is put into practice through the preaching of the gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ brings about peace and reconciliation. It also brings about the equality of status between the heirs of God.
Jesus’ anointing is to bring good news to the poor
During his ministry, Jesus had an anointing to bring good news to the poor. This is not the first time he has been anointed. His anointing came from the Holy Spirit. The Hebrew Bible has several terms for poor. Some of them describe poverty as an oppression, while others refer to suffering.
According to the Hebrew Bible, poor means suffering. However, the New Testament emphasizes the good news that Jesus brings to the poor. The poor need food, shelter, jobs, and healthcare. The poor are also in need of dignity, relationships, and hope.
In the Hebrew Bible, poor refers to those who are oppressed, while the term ptochos refers to those who are oppressed by others. The poor are also those who are in need of faith.
Jesus returns in the power of the Spirit to Galilee
During the early years of his ministry, Jesus taught in Galilee. He taught with authority and won many people over. His teachings also included the introduction of parables and healing. The parables and healings were foundational in the early years of Jesus’ ministry.
The book of Luke focuses on the ministry of Jesus in Galilee. Luke uses older documents and eyewitness accounts to present Jesus’ life and ministry. He uses these documents to present Jesus’ life as fulfilling Old Testament hopes. The book also includes the account of Jesus’ temptations and victories in the desert.
When Jesus arrived in Galilee, he started teaching in the synagogues. The Spirit of the Lord rested on him, and he proclaimed good news to the poor. He was praised by all.
