During the years of his ministry, Paul had to contend with people who demanded that the Christian faith be lived out in adherence to the Jewish law. In particular, he had to deal with those who demanded that the apostles, who had come to believe in the risen Christ, impose certain elements of the Jewish law on their followers. Despite this, he was able to maintain his faith in the Lord, even in the face of these people’s appearances.

Holy God, mighty and immortal,

2 Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God.
